We Care AboutUnderstanding Your Child

Every child is unique. That’s why our diagnostic process is personalized and comprehensive—because understanding your child is the first step to helping them succeed.

What Is an Autism Diagnostic Evaluation?

A diagnostic evaluation is a structured process that helps identify the presence of autism and other developmental conditions. At Centria, our Licensed Psychologists use gold-standard tools tailored to your child’s age, abilities, and communication style.

What Happens During the Evaluation?

Our psychologists gather information through interviews, observation, and direct assessment with your child. You and your child may participate in play-based assessments, structured tasks, or behavior observations, designed to feel supportive and natural.

Who Performs the Evaluation?

All diagnostic evaluations are completed by Licensed Psychologists with specialized training in pediatric assessment. Our team is focused on making children feel comfortable and helping families feel informed every step of the way.

What Can the Evaluation Diagnose?

While many families come seeking clarity about autism, our evaluations can also identify ADHD, anxiety, developmental delays, or other challenges. The goal is to understand your child holistically, not just rule out a single condition.

The Sooner You Know, the Sooner You Can Support

Noticing changes in how your child communicates, interacts, or handles daily routines? Getting clarity early helps you advocate with confidence. Early evaluation leads to early access to services, which benefits both you and your child. Our Licensed Psychologists provide evaluations tailored to your child’s developmental stage and needs.

What to Expect During Your Child’s Diagnostic Evaluation

Initial Consultation

We begin by learning more about your child’s history, behavior, and developmental milestones to help shape the evaluation process.

Observation and Interaction

Your child will meet with a member of our diagnostic team in person to complete structured and unstructured assessment activities.

Results and Next Steps

After the evaluation, you’ll receive a written report outlining findings, insights, and recommendations for next steps.

From Diagnosis to Ongoing Support

A Clear Path Forward
Receiving a diagnosis is just the beginning. If your child qualifies for ABA therapy, our team will support the transition and help you understand what to expect. We focus on skills that matter most—communication, daily living, and social growth.

What Happens After Diagnosis?

After your child receives a diagnosis, we’ll help guide you through what comes next.

Review and Understand Your Report

After your child’s evaluation, you’ll receive a written diagnostic report from a Licensed Psychologist. This report includes clinical findings, observations, and recommended next steps. We’ll walk you through it, ensuring you fully understand what the diagnosis means and how to move forward.

Explore Available Support Options

Depending on your child’s needs and the findings of the evaluation, recommended supports may include ABA therapy, speech or occupational therapy, school accommodations, or further assessments. Our team will help you explore these options and understand what’s covered by your insurance or local resources.

Begin Building Your Child’s Support Plan

You’ll have access to a care team that helps coordinate your next steps—whether that’s transitioning into services with Centria, or connecting you to trusted providers in your area. Our goal is to make this next chapter feel informed, manageable, and focused on your child’s success.

What assessments does Centria Autism use for autism diagnosis services?
When providing diagnostic evaluations, Centria’s team of Licensed Psychologists use information gathered across multiple assessments, including:
  • Parent interviews/questionnaires
  • Behavioral observations
  • Standardized assessments (ex. cognitive assessments, developmental assessments, adaptive assessments)
  • Autism-specific assessments (ex. ADOS-2, ADI-R)
What do I do if my child has been diagnosed with autism?
If your child has been diagnosed with autism then a next step would be to start the process to begin ABA therapy. At Centria Autism, we will work side-by-side with you and your insurance providers and physicians to verify insurance coverage, get insurance authorizations and have an assessment scheduled as quickly as possible.
How long will it take for my child to start ABA therapy?
Depending on your location, and time of day you will have ABA sessions, we can start in as little as two weeks. After the Initial Assessment and Treatment Plan are developed, your Client Service Manager will contact your Health Insurance provider and submit for ABA coverage. We will be working on finding you a Behavior Technician that meets the needs of your child. Also, your Supervising Clinician will supervise the treatment plan and Behavior Technician moving forward. Once all staff is in place, and the ABA coverage through the insurance provider is authorized, we are ready to start!
What is the M-Chat?
The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-Chat) is a screening tool that can be used to help determine if behaviors a child is showing could indicate that child has autism. The screener is not a formal diagnosis evaluation, and if you have any questions regarding the outcome of the screener, please consult with your physician as a formal diagnostic evaluation may be needed.
